The "real" WDTH FM was licensed by the Federal Communications Commission on May 26, 1971. It operated on a frequency of 103.3 MHz on the FM broadcast band. It's effective radiative power was 100,000 Watts at an antenna height of 550 ft located in the Duluth Antenna farm. Studios at the time were located at 317 W. Superior St in downtown Duluth, MN. The station was owned and operated by Contemporary Broadcasting Corporation. President and General Manager of WDTH was Robert P. Hansen. Commercial Manager and News Director was Tom Kuhn; Dean Voight, JR its Program Director. Promotion Manager was Bob Blesener, Music Director Fred Olson. Chief Engineer Robert E. Peterson. WDTH was affiliated with the ABC FM Network for news feeds. National Representative was Webb. It's format was Contemporary Rock. This is what we have so far about what made WDTH FM tick. This information would be subject to change later when the University of Minnesota Duluth would acquire the frequency and transmitter set up. The station went off the air for the last time in August of 1974. |
